Presumed to be the oldest method of forming clay, pinch
pots are still the starting place for all beginning potters. They remain one
of my favorite forms of expression. To create a more interesting surface and
intriguing edge, I often wedge mica, granite or pyrite into the clay body
before forming the pot.
Firing in a pit with sawdust and cow dung is almost
exciting as Raku firing, with just as many variables and potentials involved.
The results are always a pleasant surprise.
